Instructions for creating a new Dial-up Connection on MCIS, Moody County Internet Service

1. Double click my computer

2. Double click dial up networking

3. Double click make new connection.

4. When you are prompted to type in a name for the computer you are dialing type MCISWEB and then click next.

5. Next you will be asked to type a phone number for the computer you are calling, leave the area code blank and put 997-3311 in the box for the telephone number, then click next.  You should now get a screen that states you have successfully created a new dial up, at this time click finish. After you click finish you should return to your dial up networking screen and it should look like the one below.

6. Using your RIGHT mouse button, click on MCISWEB and then using your LEFT mouse button click on properties.

You should now be on the general tab,  if you have a check mark in the box where it says to use area code and dialing properties, REMOVE it.

7. Now select, Server Types located right next to the general tab. There should only be 2 check marks on this screen.
1. Enable software compression
2. TCP/IP
If you have other items besides these two that have check marks, please REMOVE them at this time.  It should look like the following image

8. Now select the button labeled TCP/IP Settings...
Server assigned IP address should have a black dot next to it and
Server assigned name server addresses should also have a black dot.
It is not necessary to put in any DNS numbers.
Also, use IP Header Compression and Use Default Gateway on Network must have a check mark next to them.

9. Now you can click OK, this will bring you back to the General properties, go ahead and click OK one more time. You should now be back to the Dialup networking box again.  Once again RIGHT click on the new dial up you just created for MCISWEB and select the option to create shortcut. When the box comes up that states windows cannot created shortcut here would you like it on your desktop instead just click yes.

10. From your desktop, double click on the shortcut we created to MCISWEB.  Enter your username and password and click connect. 

Once connected you should see what looks like two tv screens in the lower right corner of your desktop.  This means you are connected to our service and are ready to load your Internet Explorer, Outlook Express or your Netscape.
